The Tangled Hearts Project
Celebrating Adoption and Foster ParentingBy Teri Brown
With the Tangled Hearts Project, Bongiorno wishes to change the image of adoption and transform the foster care system. Her objectives are to:
- Help children of adoption to be more comfortable and self-accepting.
- Increase awareness of adoption and foster care issues through writing, speaking and by having women all over our country wear the Tangled Hearts necklace as a symbol of gratitude toward birth and adoptive mothers, in celebration of adopted children, of hope for all children waiting to be adopted, to encourage more people to become foster or adoptive parents and child advocates, and in support of legislative reform to better protect children.
- Raise scholarship funds for foster care children.
For Bongiorno, Tangled Hearts has become a message and a passion. Her own words say it best: "I basically want to shine the light on this special segment of children so that people will become involved in creating a stable, healthy, loving home life for each of our nation's children."
