All Grown Up
Adoption Stories of Adults By Teri Brown
. She was reunited with her birth family in 2003. Her birth father had already passed away by then, but she was able to visit his grave and meet some of his family. "My birth mom is Christine Medicine Horn, a respected elder in the Yankton Sioux Indian Tribe in Lake Andes, South Dakota," says Medicine Horn. "My birth dad is Peter Leroy Archambeau, Yankton Sioux. I am waiting for pictures of him when he was a boy. I want to see if he lives on in physical appearance through my son."
Medicine Horn flew with her husband and son from Ohio to South Dakota to meet with her birth family. "There were two news channels taping the event," she says. "We stayed for five days and I have recorded the events in a book and through poetry. It is my belief I found my mom because God knew it was the desire of my heart. I knew there would be healing not only for mom and myself, but also for generations to come among the Indian community."
