The Foster Mom Diaries
How Fate Changed
One Woman's Life By Teri Foreman
One Woman's Life
Money is another issue. The state of Oregon doesn't pay foster parents who are related. It looks as though we will be able to get some federal money, but that is a lengthy procedure and requires even more paperwork. In the meantime, my husband is working 65 hours a week in order to keep us afloat financially, which doesn't help me a lot at home! It looks as if my own writing time is going to be limited for a while, and I'll be bringing in a lot less money.
Our major challenge remains David. His disruptive behavior raises the stress level in our home, and my own teens are losing patience. I'm not sure if he's ever had any structure in his life. His reactions to our limiting video games and television and enforcing a consistent bedtime makes me think that he hasn't. He also has an inability to play by himself for any length of time. The case worker believes he may have ADHD issues, and his hyperactivity wears us out.
