The Foster Mom Diaries
How Fate Changed
One Woman's Life By Teri Foreman
One Woman's Life
It was time to put our ideals to the test. Time to step up to the plate and show them that we weren't all talk. Plus, there were three little kids who deserved to be safe and loved.
The certification woman showed up right on time. We filled out countless forms while she got to know us. The boy would sleep in my son's room, the 2-year-old in my daughter's room and the baby with us. She looked over the house and left, assuring us there would be no problems with the certification.
Then we swung into high gear. I'd completely forgotten how much stuff you need for a baby: highchairs, car seats, crib and play pen, diapers for both the younger ones, bibs, a toddler bed, a twin bed, sippy cups. The list was endless, and there was no way we could afford all these things at the last minute.
During all of this chaos, we couldn't get a straight answer as to how long we would have the children, and I worried. Could we do this long term? Could we do it at all?
My emotions ran from excitement to panic. Talking to family members was like picking my way through a land mine, as they would tell me one thing and the case worker would tell me another. Who would be allowed visitation? When was Sylvia gettingher kids back? Everyone had different answers, so I decided to trust the caseworkers.
